Cochrane's nomination and rally for the Kraft Hockeyville contest are in.

Over the past 16 years, Kraft Hockeyville has helped to upgrade arenas across the country. Who wins depends largely on the participation of the communities. The end goal is to receive $250,000 in funding for arena renovations and the opportunity to host an NHL game.

The nomination and rally part of the competition closed on February 19.

Brooke Sabourin with SLS Centre says they have been busy creating the submission saying, "We spent the last two weeks filming different events around town getting families to hold a chalkboard that says what hockey means to them and we have created a video for our story for Kraft Hockeyville." Then the community rallied to show its support for the bid.

The focus of Cochrane's submission is the Cochrane Arena and the timing could not be better as the old arena is about to reach a milestone. Sabourin says, "Cochrane Arena is the one we really want to support it is turning 50 next year and there are a lot of things in there that just need upgrading to meet the needs of our diverse community now."

The Judging Period is now underway and will close on March 11.

At that time, the top four contenders from across the country will be announced and from March 31 to April 1 voting to determine the winner will take place with the winner announced on April 1.
