Following in the footsteps of the 40th anniversary of the Marathon Of Hope, the 2021 Cochrane Terry Fox run will go virtual again this year.

Lesley Hunt, Event Organizer for the Cochrane Terry Fox Run explains how the event will work.

“It's mostly a virtual event, but we also have Mitford Park reserved. We can't do the barbecue or the gathering or any announcements kind of thing since we're encouraged not to gather but we still have the space where people can do one kilometer, two kilometers, five, 10, or a whole marathon.”

“We are also selling 2021 Terry Fox T-shirts and we have a tip-tap machine, which is basically a machine that you can tap your debit or credit card and donations go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation.”

She says that you don’t have to come down to Mitford Park to participate.

“It doesn't have to be on Sunday. That's the virtual aspect of it, that you don't have to be at a certain place at a certain time, you can do it independently as well.”

The 2020 virtual edition of The Marathon Of Hope in Cochrane raised $6,100 for cancer research.

“There's no real goal this year, I think they might have it as $5,000 online but we'll just see because it's a bit tougher with things being virtual and whatnot so we'll just see how we do.”

The virtual run will be held on Sunday, Sept. 19.

Cochranites are encouraged to register for the event and start fundraising for cancer research
