Brett Rehman isn't popping champagne or eating cake as he celebrates his big win at The Alberta Open.

The 41-year-old bodybuilder picked up first place in the Men's Physique and first place in the Master's Division at the Paramount Performance competition in Calgary last weekend.

"The federation that we compete in is called the Canadian Physique Alliance, so they're the only ones that are affiliated with the IFBB, which is the International Federation of Bodybuilding and that is basically the NHL, the NFL, the major leagues of bodybuilding is the IFBB." says Rehman.

Rehman says this competition was necessary in order to qualify for the national pro-qualifier show that he's heading to in Toronto on June 4.

To get to this level, discipline is everything says Rehman "It takes time. Muscle building is not an overnight thing, either is weight loss, it all takes time and discipline and diet, training and your recovery. It has to be on point, it has to be 100 per cent. There's a lot of sacrifice, when you go to birthday parties you're not having cake, you're eating out of a Tupperware container and it's all about your calorie intake."

The Cochrane resident, who owns Reflex Supplements has been bodybuilding for approximately 13-years.

"I was 28 when I really started lifting weights, which didn't really appeal to me until I was working in the oil patch and I just didn't want to be in the bar anymore and that was my excuse to get away from the partying and it just kind of took off from there and the bug bit me, and the next thing I knew, here I am."
