Cochrane didn't win the $100,000 up for grabs, but, man, did we clock minutes.

Hundreds of thousands of them in fact, playing sports, recreating, and working around the home.

Sport4Life Cochrane spearheaded Cochrane's participation in the nationwide Participaction Community Better Challenge in June and says it's been an amazing way to connect with Cochranites.

Cochrane wasn't one of the 50 finalists for the $100,000 prize, but our community finished 71st in the nation and 12th in Alberta.

"We want to thank all Cochrane residents and business owners that took part in the challenge and logged on their minutes," says Genevieve Boivin, Sport4Life Cochrane program coordinator.

Sport4Life gives special mention to Footstock, whose participants recorded 7,176 minutes. They also salute the École Notre-Dame des Vallées team that clocked more than 206,525 minutes by offering multiple ways for kids to be active and learn the skills to play for life.

"Thanks to our sponsors who made the challenge that much more fun, but above it all, who showed their love for their community and passion for active living.," says Boivin.

Sport4Life was fortunate to have many sponsors and supporters. They include West Valley Chiropractic, Donair On The Run, Jayne Sandilands's sweat squad, Two Pharmacy, Amped 2 Play, Save-on-Foods Cochrane, Cochrane Osteopathy, Pamela Moores RMT, Zen Afterglow, Bike Cochrane, Canadian Brewhouse - Cochrane, GM Cochrane, Big Hill Cycle, Get Set Sport Therapy, and Reflex Cochrane.

As a nation, Canadians logged 393,636,113 minutes of activities throughout June.

From our province, Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Vulcan, and Paintearth County are finalists. They are required to complete a final submission explaining why they should be awarded the title of Canada's Most Active Community. The winner of the $100,000 prize will be announced on July 26.
