Everything is on schedule for the Oct. 7 launch of the Cochrane On-Demand Local Transit (COLT) system.

COLT is becoming more visible in the community with the installation of the distinctive bus stop signs. Today, Jason Lewis and Dave Cooper, of Fox Canada, put up the first of 152 signs at designated bus stops.

The service's app is now available to download and explore. Everyone can use the app to create a profile, check for stops near them and get used to the user interface.

The app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play or by following the links from ridecolt.ca.

The town will also have a booth in the SLS Family Sports Centre sometime next week where information on the transit system and the app will be available.

While the town finetunes the system, rides will be free until the end of 2019. After that, the standard adult fee is $2.50. There are lower rates for seniors and youth as well as monthly passes and books of tickets available at discounted rates. Children 5 and under ride free with another ticketed person.

The COLT service starts at 10 a.m. on launch day. Regular service starting Oct. 8 is weekdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rides can start to be booked through the app the night of Sunday, Oct. 6.

Buses will initially serve local destinations, but plans are underway to add regional destinations like Crowfoot LRT station and post-secondary institutions in Calgary.
