The countdown has begun for the Winter in the Woods family winter festival taking place in Bragg Creek this Saturday, Jan. 29.

The fun-filled day at the community's outdoor rink begins at noon. Plus, it's a fundraising to continue the revitalization of the community's outdoor rink. Entrance is by donation.

Chair Brian Robertson says sales have been brisk for the pucks available at nine businesses for the chuck-a-puck that will net one lucky winner $1,000. It will also determine which of the nine participating businesses will be given naming rights to the rink for one year. It's the final event of the day and starts at 7:30 p.m.

The pucks are $10 each and are sold out at some locations but available at most, says Robertson.

The nine participating businesses are Powderhorn Salon, River Dragonfly, ATB Financial, Rocky Mountain Bison Company, Moose Mountain General Store, Bragg's Corner Kitchen, Many Legs, Rockies Tavern & Grill, and One of a Kind.

A unique event to watch is the human curling event at 3 p.m. that is a thing of folklore in Bragg. Banff-Kananaskis Miranda Rosin is excited about the entire festival and has been inviting constituents to come to watch her being thrown down the ice as a human curling rock.

Robertson says they've had a good response to the call for volunteers but more are welcomed.
