Cochrane RCMP have a charged a male youth after he used counterfeit money to pay for a service.

In the afternoon of September 10, RCMP responded to a complaint of possible counterfeit American currency being used in Cochrane.

Before contacting the RCMP, the victim took the $20 US bill to a bank to confirm the money was indeed counterfeit. The victim was able to identify the suspect and confirm his whereabouts to RCMP members.

RCMP say once located, a 16 year old Cochrane male tried to flee police but did not get far.

The youth suspect has been charged with possession of counterfeit money, uttering/exporting counterfeit money x2, possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000 x2, identity theft, resist/obstruct a peace officer, and altering a firearm licence.

The suspects name is not being released as he is a youth.

RCMP are still investigating a second complaint of counterfeit American currency being used at a separate business.
