Two Cochrane area sporting organizations will benefit from community grants awarded through Rocky View County's community recreation funding program budget of 2020.

At the Dec. 22 meeting, Rocky View County (RVC) council approved over $21,000 in the capital and operational funding requests.

Among them was $1,500 awarded to the Cochrane Minor Baseball Association (CMB) towards the purchase of a batting cage, portable pitching mound, and shed.

The estimated cost of the project was estimated by CMB to be $12,688.49, and it had sought $3,000 from the county.

The Extreme Cowboy Alberta Association (ECA) was awarded $2,500 towards repairs and improvements to its Ranchland Horse Park, located within the grounds of the Cochrane and District Agricultural Society.

The project also included the installation of media stands, a storage facility, and the purchase of a generator for a total estimated of cost $30,456. ECA had requested $7,614 from the county.

Applications from both organizations were originally found to be non-compliant because matching funds were not provided by the Town of Cochrane. But on Dec. 1, the county's Recreation Governance Committee recommended funding be provided because they both offer recreational services to county residents.

Prior to this, the county awarded community grants totaling more than $223,986.

RVC’s Community Recreation Funding Policy enables recreation development and ongoing partnerships throughout the region, enhancing access for residents to recreational facility services and programs.
