As we head into the first weekend of Stage Two of Open for Summer, COVID-19 numbers continue to trend in the right direction.

The province reported 170 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours with a positivity rate of 2.5%, the lowest percentage seen in a long time.

Hospitalizations have dropped below the 300 mark to 296 and ICU admissions have also decreased to 79.

Another 3 deaths have been reported for a total of 2,265 in the province.

To date, 3.2 million doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered in the province with 67.8% of the population having received at least one shot.

Those Albertans who are now fully immunized with two shots have risen to 16.7%.

Locally, the active case numbers continue to drop as well with Rocky View County reporting 30 cases and Cochrane has dropped to 12 active cases of COViD-19.

Dr. Hinshaw announced yesterday that she will be taking next week off to spend time with her family.

She said her team will continue to monitor all numbers carefully and will update her Twitter account if need be.

Dr. Hinshaw ended her update yesterday with a plea to all residents who haven't been vaccinated yet to please do so for the health and safety of all Albertans.
