Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health has requested that Alberta Health Services (AHS) Public Health staff initiate COVID-19 investigation at a Kindergarten to Grade 4 school in Springbank.

In a letter sent home to parents yesterday (April 18, 2021) Public Health, Communicable Disease Control has stated that two or more cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at École Elbow Valley Elementary School.

In the letter, Health Officials say that Dr. Hinshaw has requested an investigation to determine who may have been exposed at the school during their infectious period.

In order to protect the identity of the affected individuals, no other details have been provided.

Health Officials say that the risk to the general school population becoming infected because of these particular cases is low and that anyone identified as a close contact will be directly contacted by AHS or the school.

If a student or staff member that hasn't been identified as a close contact develops COVID-19 symptoms, it's strongly recommended that they isolate at home and call Health Link at 811 as soon as possible to arrange for COVID-19 testing.
