Dr. Hinshaw provided the COVID-19 numbers update for Thursday, May 20 and the new COVID 19 case numbers in the province today were 812 or a 9.3% positivity rate.

Hospitalizations dropped by 20 to 685 and ICU admissions dropped by eight to 177.

Sadly, there were another 4 deaths reported.

Cochrane saw another drop of 10 cases for a total of 118 and RVC saw a large drop of 24 cases for a total of 216.

While COVID-19 numbers drop, vaccinations continue to rise with 2.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine having been administered.

That means 51 per cent of Albertans 12 and older are now protected with a least one dose. Dr. Hinshaw is pleased with the progress that is being made.

Alberta's top doctor also announced a change to quarantine requirements saying, "Beginning today, fully vaccinated individuals who have had their second dose of vaccine at least two weeks prior, will no longer have to quarantine at all if they are exposed to a confirmed positive case. This is only as long as they have no symptoms at any point.[...] For those who have received only one dose of a vaccine, these individuals will now have a shortened quarantine period if they are a close contact with a confirmed case. The quarantine period for these people with one dose of vaccine is being shortened from 14 days to 10 for close contacts who have no symptoms."
