An ice cream run will be the first trip of the season for the Cochrane Cruise this Saturday, June 12.

The cavalcade is heading to Canmore to kick off a summer of casual rides after the first one was cancelled after COVID-19 health measures were once again tightened.

This time around, even the weather appears to be cooperating with a high of 20 and no rain in the forecast.

The staging area is located at Cochrane GM, 2 Westside Dr., and opens at 12 noon. Around 12:45 p.m. there will be a drivers' meeting conducted on the app Zello. At 1 p.m., they start heading west on Hwy. 1A to Canmore.

As of Wednesday, they had about 35 vehicles registered. Organizer Jim Messner says many more are expected to sign up before registration closes tonight (Thurs. June 10) at midnight.

"I think there's a lot of pent-up anticipation," says Messner. "People want to get out there, and they haven't been able to do this for a while, so I suspect we'll have a good car count."

The first cruise was to be a tour of the town's major seniors lodges on May 8. Messner says they hope to reschedule that event for July.

They'll be plenty of other cruises throughout the summer, including Cruz 4 Her on Aug. 28 in support of the Big Hill Haven women's shelter.

The variety of vehicles that come out for the cruises is mind-boggling. You can expect to see Japanese, European, muscle cars, hot rods, wrap-arounds, classics, and more.
