Families will have some extra time to decide whether they would like to make the one time switch to their current learning mode.

Rocky View Schools (RVS) was initially giving families until December 11, 2020, to state their learning intentions for the new year, which would go into effect on February 1, 2021.

Now that Grades 7 to 12 students have already made a temporary switch to at-home online learning, RVS is extending the deadline, giving families more time to transition and make the best decision to suit their family needs.

Deadlines will vary for grade levels due to the complexities of timetables.

Families of Kindergarten age children who did not send their kids to school at the start of the school year can still choose to do so at any time before the end of the school year.

Families of students in Grades 1- 8/9  will have an extra month to decide, with intentions forms available to them from January 11 to 15, 2021.

Due to the complex timetables of highschool students, The majority of Grades 9/10 - 12 students will still need to state their intentions before the new year. The majority of high school students will have from December 8 to 14 to make the one-time switch.

The exceptions are Grade 9s at Chestermere Lake Middle, Indus, Langdon, W.G. Murdoch, Prince of Peace and Beiseker. Since these students have an arranged timetable they will have from January 11 to 14 to make their selection. All grade 9 students who attend grade 9 to 12 high schools will need to make their selection between December 8 to 14, 2020.

Selections can be made through the SchoolEngage system accessed through PowerSchool, however, the system will not open to allow selections until the applicable time periods mentioned above.

The switch will still go into effect on February 1, 2021, and students will be committed to that mode of learning for the remainder of the school year.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent of Rocky View Schools, Greg Luterbach extended his appreciation to families for continuing to adapt during this unprecedented school year. "Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding as we all work together to keep our students safe, happy and healthy learners."
