What remained of a deserted house in a heavily treed area just west of the new Rivercrest subdivision just off River Height Dr. was destroyed in a fire this morning.

Acting Fire Chief Shawn Polley says Cochrane Fire Services were dispatched to the scene at 10:20 a.m. and with the assistance of Rocky View County fire service went into a defensive fire attack and suppression mode to make short order of the blaze.

"We had the fire knocked down pretty quickly, and had adequate resources on site, and now just we're just doing some mop up and cleaning up and we'll be clearing the scene shortly,". says Polley.

Heavy, dry grass and numerous trees surrounded the house, and actions were taken to make sure it didn't spread.

"The members, as they advanced to the fire, had to do some suppression as they got closer in the grass areas, but the total loss was the abandoned property."

The fire is now under investigation.
