Walmart Canada has confirmed that Cochrane's Walmart Superstore location will remain open with reduced hours.

As part of the added restrictions laid out by the province earlier this week, Premier Jason Kenney stated that all non-essential workplaces with outbreaks will close for 10 days.

Walmart Canada's Manager of Corporate Affairs, Felicia Fefer confirmed an outbreak at the Cochrane location on April 27, and according to Alberta Health Services, the store remains under outbreak status.

On May 5, Fefer confirmed that "an additional five associates from the Cochrane Walmart store have recently tested positive for COVID-19." She adds that the company remains in close contact with local public health and the store will remain open with reduced hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The most recent affected associates' last working shifts range between April 21 -26.

Fefer reiterates that Walmart continues to follow strict safety measures, including:

  • Mandatory masks for customers and associates.
  • Limited capacity
  • Floor markings and one-way aisles
  • Increased cleaning throughout the store
  • Wellness/ temperature checks for all associates
  • Cleaning shopping carts
  • Regular handwashing
  • Regular cleaning of work areas
  •  Installed plexiglass dividers throughout the store

Fefer says that all affected individuals, as well as the associates identified as being in "close prolonged contact," have been directed to self-isolate.
