The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is encouraging Albertans to file their 2015 tax returns because they maybe missing out on pay-outs from support programs.

So far, around 110,000 eligible families are receiving their Alberta Child Benefits (ACB) which helps approximately 200,000 children.

Aaron Manton, Human Services Minister, Press Secretary says it's worth it to help families out with anything that can improve their lives.

“On Friday, we heard from a mother who was able to enroll her children in dance classes and put one in Kumon for some help with reading because they were receiving the ACB. Heard from another parent who recenly moved to Canada with her family and was able to buy them winter gear. Especially, this time of year with Christmas. It's really important to help them out with those expenses.”

The first rounds of the payments have gone out in August and as of November 25 familes should start seeing the next pay-out.

Manton adds the government realizes times are tough and wants to help where it can.

“We know families are struggling to make ends meet. The government wants Albertans to know we're listening now in tough economic times.

Families who earn a net income of less than $41,220/yr are eligible for the ACB.

The ACB program is a non-taxable and refundable benefit and was first announced in November 2015 along with the revamped Alberta Family Employment Tax Credit (AFETC).
