With fridged temperatures this week, It is not uncommon to see vehicles left running and unattended in town. The Cochrane RCMP is warning that this could leave your vehicle as an easy target for thieves.

Corporal Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP wants everyone to be extra cautious "It is typical to see an uptick in stolen vehicles at this time of year, Thieves often seek out easy opportunities. An unlocked running vehicle presents a very easy target.”

The Cochrane RCMP recommends that you limit the time you leave your vehicle running, never leave it unattended and if possible use automatic car starters.

"If we as a community take some simple steps to secure our property we not only protect our own property but we also discourage thieves from coming back to our community in the future."

If you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood call Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000. If you would like to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
