Dr Deena Hinshaw started her update by sharing inspiring stories of ways people self distanced over the holiday long weekend. She offered her congratulations and thanks to Albertans for practicing social distancing from family and friends over the Easter holiday.

Hinshaw reported 81 new cases of COVID 19 in the province in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases to 1732. Sadly, two more deaths were reported. 877 Albertans have recovered an increase of 54 from last reported.

Dr Hinshaw also reported that the provinical lab is performing very well and that in the past 24 hours labs had completed 2465 tests. Bringing the total number of tests to 77,007 since they began. "We still have capacity to do more testing." says Hinshaw "Effectively immediately, we are expanding eligibility for testing to anyone in Alberta who has a fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose or sore throat. If you have any of these COVID 19 symptoms, it is important to remember the critical first step stay home if you are feeling sick. Your next step should be to take the AHS online assessment form in order to arrange testing. There is no need to call 811.
