Dr Deena Hinshaw provided a COVID 19 update on Tuesday, August 18. She began by announcing that there was an error made in the numbers posted on Friday resulting in 74 less active cases in the weekends number update. There were actually 285 new cases reported over the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday period instead of 359.

In the past 24 hours, the following numbers were reported:

  • 89 new cases
  • 1169 active cases in the province
  • 48 people are in hospital with 11 in ICU
  • one additional death was reported
  • more than 8000 tests were performed
  • Cochrane active cases remain at zero
  • Rocky View County is reporting 4 active cases

With the return to school quickly approaching, AHS is encouraging teachers and school staff to get tested. That means approximately 90,000 people in the province will need to be tested. Dr. Hinshaw announced that Shoppers Drug Marts and pharmacies in stores owned by Loblaw will be performing tests to help with the anticipated increased testing load in the coming weeks.  You can go to the Blue Cross website to find the full list of pharmacies providing testing. Currently, Shoppers Drug Mart and Sunset Ridge Pharmacy in Cochrane are on the list.
