A modernization project coming to Elbow Valley School was well received by RVS School Trustee, Helen Clease.

The plan to update the school has been in the works for a couple years, shares Clease, who says community members will be thrilled to hear news of construction beginning February 2018.

Clease, adds while RVS continues to grow great guns it is important to not only maintain older schools but modernize them as well.

"Elbow Valley serves over 600 students, and although it has been very well maintained it is important we keep these schools up to date."

Clease states the modernization project will be welcomed in three ways. "One is to help create a more functional, secure, more modern and inviting entrance; and with this renovation will come added security which is important. With the added security we can have the addition of community entrances and those community entrances are going to allow for more use after school by both the school and the community."

While Clease knows this isn't a long term solution, the facelift will add value to students, staff, and the community as a whole. "We know that down the road there will be some new schools built in the area and we do have Elbow Valley on our plan as a major renovation or even as a new build down the road, but that is years down the road so in the interim I think this is very welcome."

Harmony School is number 6 on the capital plan, but depending on approval that is still a 2 to 4 year build out.

The $485,000 project will be completed by RVS maintenance staff and is expected to wrap up by June 2018.
