Canadian analysts will be paying close attention to the American election results.

Dan McTeague, Gas Buddy, Senior Petroleum Analyst, says the market right now is not swaying, but by Thursday morning that could all change.

"It does suggest that the US election is not just important to Canadians, it is important to the world. Not only is the US the largest consumer of petroleum products in the world, bar none; policies dealing with energy products, fossil fuels, etc, have a lot to do with where energy prices could be going over the next several months let alone several years."

McTeague says Canadians need to be concerned since oil policies have a lot to do with Canada's economic success.

"What's good for Alberta, the price we get for oil, has a lot to do with our ability to pay for our national infrastructure and social programs and so on. So it's going to be a very important election to watch not just from a consumer point of view. As motorists we always want cheap gas; but if it comes at the extent of Canada's commodity which is oil, and our ability to sell it to other markets especially the United States, than that has a significant impact on all Canadians whether we like it or not."

Gas prices in Alberta averaged 89.73 c/L on November 6, down 15.6 c/L from last year at this time.
