The next Women Empowering Women meeting is all about back to school.

Back to school is an anxiety ridden time for both parents and kids alike.

Mary Lou Eckmeier says the goal is to help parents manage their stress which in turn can lessen their child's anxiety.

"Knowing what is within our control and what isn't, is important. Knowing what is within our child's control and isn't, is important. Not crossing the two and not adding to our kids responsibilities because of our lives and choices, is key; along with supporting our kids to become confidant, kind young people."

There will be multiple presenters at the meeting addressing resiliency, healthy eating/snacking, how to handle anxiety, and advice from a long time teacher.

Kari Rose, Nikki Neave, Jayena Collins, and a presentation by Eckmeier will all be made. There will be snacks, beverages, and an opportunity to connect with other moms.

Eckmeier shares the point of getting women together on a monthly basis is to fill the void that many Cochrane women face.

"Many of us move away from family, neighbours, teachers... all the mentors we grew up with. We live with insecurities about our lives, parenting, relationships, self image, work, finances; we need to find other women to connect with so that we learn it's okay, we're okay. This is a journey and the goal is not perfection, not even striving for perfection. The goal is to be happy on a daily basis, enjoy the moments, because sometimes the moments feel really long, but I can attest to the fact that the years are short."

Women Empowering Women is a growing group that meets monthly discussing a variety of topics; Women Empowering Women will be meeting at the Cochrane Public Library on August 29 at 6pm, tickets can be purchased at the door for $15 or early bird here.
