For the fifth year, Cochranites will be able to give back, and give themselves a treat.

The annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser will be held on July 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside of Addie's Creative Fabrics on Main Street.

Nicole Snider, Empty Bowls Cochrane Organizer, says it's not just about raising money.

"We are raising awareness for hunger in our town, and we are supporting it by making the bowls as a pottery studio," she says. "The bowls are purchased for a donation of $20 and that goes to the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank, and it gets put to use in the ways that they need it the most."

The fundraiser is simple to participate in, first purchase a handmade bowl, mug, or plate, then get it filled by one of many restuarants supporting Empty Bowls.

Snider shares there's a growing number of people in Cochrane who are in need.

"With the local economy not doing so well, they're having a harder time keeping up because more and more people are needing the food bank."

Last year the event raised about $4,000, this year the event would like to match or top it.

Over 200 bowls were created over the past year at Saffron Collective Studios for the fundraiser.
