The Cochrane Art Club is getting ready for it's 58th year, with a new theme of 'The Business of Being an Artist.'

The club's first meeting is Sept. 6, at St. Andrew's United Church, and its first art show will take Place Oct. 1, Laura Procunier, President of the Cochrane art club says there's lot's to look forward to this year.

"We're rich in history with an eye to the future, we are really excited about our upcoming year," she says. "We have a great artists coming to teach workshops, and give free demos to our members."

Procunier says the club is accepting new members this year, and welcomes anyone to join, whether they are an experienced artist or not.

"We have quite a range of artists, we have practically brand new beginner painters who are like little sponges absorbing it all, and they just welcome the opportunity to paint with so many experienced members. The experienced members are just happy to share that knowledge."

She shares art can drastically change an individual's life, and becoming an artist is a wonderful experience.

"I started painting slowly, and as you became aware of colours and shapes you really see the world in a different view. You don't just look at clouds anymore, you see all the different blues, pinks, and purples, and the nuances, and you just look at art in a new way."

The theme this year is educating artists on what to do after they're finished their paintings.

"The whole year is based on what I call the business of being an artist so, how do you sign your name? Do you date your paintings? How do you photograph your art? All those other elements of being an artist are going to be addressed this year."
