A spirited four-game exhibition series between the Cochrane Generals and Okotoks Bisons wraps up Friday night (Sept. 3) at the Cochrane Arena.

The two closely matched rivals have been using the series to prepare their veterans for the return of play and to help decide which prospective players to keep.

Last night, the Okotoks Bisons won the third game, 4-1. That gives them a 2-1 edge in the series. The first was decided in a shootout.

Gens head coach and general manager Kurtis Jones says whether or not they win isn't the focus right now. It's a chance to determine their final roster.

"We're trying to mix things around to see who can play where, and who can play with who," says Jones.

Last night, for example, their veteran defencemen weren't dressed.

He says the Gens will be reducing their roster to 23 players in advance of their season opener here in Cochrane against the Kainai Braves on Sept. 11.

He says some of the picks will be obvious but there are several working hard for a spot.

"Friday will be our last kick at the can, and then we'll have to hammer it all out as a coaching staff as to who's going and who's not going."

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
