There's going to be a party down at Mitford Park on New Years Eve as Cochranites ring in 2020.

The Cochrane & Area Events Society (CAES) is hosting a New Years Eve Family Celebration.

There will be lots of activities including skating, horse carriage rides, fire dancer shows, prizes, hot chocolate, a DJ and fireworks.

CAES Acting President Marina Chabbert says if the weather is chilly they will have some heated tents for people to warm up in.

She says "We have a tent called Resolution Tent which will have a nice tree in the middle so we will encourage the families and the kids to write their resolutions out for the new year and tie it on the tree."

Chabbert says they will offer hot chocolate at the event and you can purchase a burger or a hot dog meal for only $2.

If it's too warm out and the Town of Cochrane declares the ice thickness to be unsafe then skating can't happen but the celebration will be moved to the Main Stage area to have a dance party instead.

Chabbert is encouraging residents to ride a COLT bus to get down to the event as parking is limited. It will also be the last day that you can ride a COLT bus for free because as of Jan. 1 there will be a fee.

Right now organizers are looking for volunteers to help with the event.

If you're interested in volunteering you're asked to email the CAES Event Coordinator at caes.volunteer@gmail.com

The celebration will happen on Tuesday, December 31st from 4:00 - 7:00pm at Mitford Park.
