A  Cochrane man has died following a  tragic accident along Highway 22 near Sunset last night.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., Cochrane RCMP responded to a report of a collision on Hwy 22  just north of the 22/1A intersection.

Upon arriving at the scene mounties discovered the 54-year-old male cyclist - deceased.

Corporal Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP says that officers contained the scene and located the driver a short distance ahead.

The driver, a 58-year-old Cochrane man was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Mounties believe that alcohol was a factor in this collision, and they continue to investigate.

Savinkoff is asking that anyone who was parked near the scene, examine their vehicle.

He says "Specifically, we're looking for possibly a vehicle that was on Sunset Drive that may have been hit by a car. We're asking that people that may have been parked on the main road coming up to Sunset Boulevard, that they have a look at their cars and if there's any damage that they report it to us and we will investigate it further."
