Yesterday, federal government officials showcased what was all but finalized two weeks ago.

Federal Environment and Climate Change minister Jonathan Wilkinson, on behalf of Infrastructure and Communities minister Catherine McKenna, announced the Springbank off-stream reservoir project is moving forward.

He also reconfirmed $168.5 million from the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF) will assist with the $432 million project. That funding was committed in March 2019.

The province is currently negotiating with landowners to acquire the land necessary for the project. Alberta Transportation minister Rajan Sawhney says 42 to 44 per cent of land needed has been acquired and is attempting to secure the rest by the end of July.
