Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health released her final modified update on COVID-19 cases in Alberta during the Christmas holiday period on Sunday.

Today, Hinshaw will get back to her daily in-person updates that provide much more comprehensive information on the number of new cases, those who have recovered from the illness, deaths, hospitalizations, and ICU patients being treated.

Hinshaw Tweeted that, on January 2,  only an estimated 400 new cases were found in the province.  She says the low number was the result of fewer people being tested on New Year's Day as just 8,100 lab tests were performed,  therefore fewer tests were processed.

The positivity rate fell to just five per cent in the province.

Hospitalization numbers were stable as were the number of people being treated for the virus in ICUs.
