The Town of Cochrane has issued a fire advisory.

The advisory officially comes into effect at 1 p.m. today.

This decision was made because it's been fairly hot and dry and that's not likely going to change soon.

Open fires are allowed during a fire advisory but we are being asked to be extra vigilant if we plan to enjoy a backyard fire.

Fire Inspector Jeff Avery recommends soaking the area adjacent to fire pits with water.

When you're finished with your fire, you're asked to douse it with water, stir it up and pour more water on it.

Avery says it should be cool to the touch before you walk away.

You can find more information about what is and what isn't allowed under the advisory here.
