Good news for anyone looking to have a fire over the May Long Weekend.

The Fire Ban enacted on Apr.19, 2016 has been lifted, as wet weather is forecast for the next week.

Although there is no longer a fire ban, Cochrane is still under a Fire Advisory, which means there is a moderate fire danger.

Open fires are now allowed, however Fire Services is asking everyone to be extra vigilant when extinguishing, and having fires; soaking the fire pit, stirring it, and soaking it again, as well as soaking the area adjacent to fire pits.

It is also important to monitor the flames, ensuring no debris is coming out of the fire pit, and maintaining a safe size of fire.

Whenever you have a fire, you must always have a way of quickly extinguishing at hand: a bucket of water, garden hose, or fire extinguisher will suffice.

During a fire advisory there are no restrictions on the following:

-Open fire permits

-Town fire pits

-Backyard fire pits

-Charcoal briquette BBQ's, propane and natural gas BBQ's

-Outdoor fireplace

-Chiminea

-Fournos oven

-Indoor fireplace
