Emergency Crews are battling a fire at the Ramada Hotel at 10 Westside Drive.

Flames and large plumes of smoke could be seen coming from the top of the hotel at around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Fire crews from Cochrane, Rockyview County and Redwood Meadows are on the scene.

Fire Inspector Jeff Avery says “Currently on scene we have our engine, our aerial. Two engines from Rockyview as well as our tender and we’re hitting it pretty hard with as much water as we can. It’s in the attic right so it’s really hard to get at especially with this high wind.”

Avery says they have done a thorough check of the building and believe everyone got out safely.

“We do have confirmation that everybody that booked a room is out. We have searched every room and found nothing, so we’re pretty confident that everyone is out.”

There's no word yet on how the fire started.

Drivers and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area to give crews plenty of space to work.

Avery says “We did shut down the surrounding businesses here. So there will be no coffee to come and get right now. All of the businesses along Westside Dr. are shut down right now.”
