Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Deena Hinshaw has confirmed the first case of monkeypox in Alberta.

Hinshaw made the announcement on Twitter Thursday afternoon saying it is one isolated adult case of the virus that has been confirmed.

The patient's privacy will be protected but it has been confirmed they had close contact with a known case outside the province.

The patient is self-isolating.

Symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes if you suspect you have been exposed to someone with monkeypox or are experiencing symptoms, self isolate and call 811 or your doctor.
