Fireside School has its first confirmed case of COVID-19.

In a letter sent to parents and guardians Thursday afternoon, Principal Dave Banderk stated that an individual from the school has tested positive for the virus "We are working closely with Alberta Health Services (AHS) to ensure the necessary precautions are taken to protect students and staff. For privacy reasons, we will not be sharing more information about the individual."

The letter also states that anyone who may have had close contact with the individual who tested positive has been given additional information about being required to isolate and will be contacted by AHS in the coming days.

The school remains open for in-class learning and additional cleaning is being completed tonight before students return to class Friday morning.

Banderk says "Our thoughts are with all individuals impacted by this positive case. We wish anyone impacted a quick recovery and look forward to their return to school when they are well, and it is safe. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation."
