The Power of 100 is holding its first-ever VaxxFest today at the Chiniki Rodeo Grounds in the Stoney Nakoda Nation.

Indigenous doctors of the initiative, Dr. Lana Potts and Dr. James Makokis, will be present, along with Indigenous social media influencers Fawn Wood, Dallas Waskahat, and Anthony Johnson.

The Power of 100 focuses on the importance of keeping Indigenous communities safe while also celebrating community through live music, engagement with social media influencers, drive-in movies, and other activities.

A performance by Red Sky and a double-feature drive-in featuring the movies Luca and Mortal Kombat will be held later in the day.

The fourth wave of COVID-19 is causing more outbreaks in First Nations communities than the previous ones.

The Power of 100 says the deadly virus is 13 times more of a threat to Indigenous people than non-Indigenous people, and young people are the most at risk.

VaxxFest heads to the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino on Saturday.

COVID protocols will be in place and masking will be enforced.
