While it might be a little hard to see due to an impending winter storm but the full Wolf Moon is set to rise tonight. This is the first full moon event of 2022.

The Wolf Moon is known to be bright and beautiful. According to the Old Farmers Almanac, the names for the moon events come from numourous sources including Native American, Colonial American, and European.

"It’s thought that January’s full Moon came to be known as the Wolf Moon because wolves were more likely to be heard howling at this time." The Old Farmers Almanac comments. "It was traditionally believed that wolves howled due to hunger during winter, but we know today that wolves howl for different reasons. Howling and other wolf vocalizations are generally used to define territory, locate pack members, reinforce social bonds, and coordinate hunting."

Cochrane is no stranger to spectacular lunar events over the past 12 months including a full lunar eclispe and aurora borealis.

The full Wolf Moon is predicted to rise over Cochrane tonight (January 17, 2022) at 4:51 P.M.
