The Alberta government has approved Cochrane and Rocky View County for disaster recovery funding to help with financial recovery from the June 21, 2019 flood.

Residents in Cochrane whose home, business or property was damaged by overland flooding that day may be eligible to receive Disaster Recovery Program funding.

Fire chief Dave Humphrey says the town made application upon behalf of residents by submitting details of events of the day. It has since been approved.

"It's now up to each person who feels they were impacted on that day on June 21 to put that information into that process online with the government," explains Humphrey.

Sunset Ridge and Glenbow, Historic Cochrane Ranche, and the Royal Canadian Legion were among those impacted. The basement of the Cochrane Historical Museum was flooded for the second time this year, though quick action reduced its severity.

The Disaster Recovery Program provides funding for uninsurable property damage, loss, and other expenses incurred as the result of a natural disaster.
