Last month, Footstock announced that it will be a virtual race event for 2021. Cochranites quickly jumped on board with both feet.

Meredith McMorran, race director says it’s been exciting to watch all the entries come in.

“It has been fantastic. It might not the numbers we have had in years past, we have at last count 300 registered participants for our various races. We're thrilled!”

“We're especially excited about the corporate relay, we have 24 teams. That's one of the things that we're the most excited about is just seeing the community spirit through the relay”

Participants have the opportunity to pick up their race package this Sunday, June 6. From there, racers have a week to run the course and record their time on the online leaderboard.

“The start-finish line is in the northeast corner of the Spray Lakes parking lot then the path leads west from there.”

“This is the first year in Footstock history that we have a kids’ duathlon. They’ll do their run portion going west first, and then they would go across Jack Tennant bridge up the hill for the bike portion.”

She says that it's not only participants who have been showing love for the event this year.

"We couldn't be more honoured to have our sponsors stand behind us and they didn't bat an eye. They all told us, whatever we can do to support this event we will do."

"Without the sponsors, we don't have a race and we are so thankful for them."

The virtual aspect has opened the race to participants outside of Cochrane, with runners registered in Leduc and Lethbridge.
