Those ages 6 to 18 are invited to try a variety of amazing sports and physical activity sessions at a free Try It Day, being hosted by Cochrane Sport4Life and the SLS Family Sports Centre.

Six sessions are being held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the sports centre, including dance, yoga, climbing, soccer, volleyball, ultimate bullfighting, and more.

"There's a variety of different sports opportunities that kids between the ages of 6 and 18 can come try for free in a safe and inclusive environment and get a taste of what sports sampling is all about," says Ashley Fox, vice-president of Cochrane Sport4Life.

She says it's not only about spreading the joy of being physically active. It also holds emotional and social value.

Registration is now open and will be accepted until Sunday.

"We've had many people register, which is wonderful to see, but we still have lots of room, so we're encouraging people today, all the way up until Sunday to register. Even if you're onsite at Spray Lakes on Sunday morning or afternoon and you think your children might want to drop in and try something, they'll be room to register."

It marks the return of Try It Day, which has not been held since the beginning of the pandemic.

Minutes of activity logged will be used towards Cochrane's entry in Participaction's Better Community Challenge. She says Cochrane is currently ranked seventh in Alberta in the challenge that continues the entire month.

There's a $100,000 prize being awarded to the winning community to help further enhance recreational opportunities.
