Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for much of central and southern Alberta as freezing rain, blowing snow and strong winds are expected. 

The freezing rain is anticipated to impact a large area from Red Deer to the Cypress Hills, east toward the Saskatchewan border starting Saturday afternoon.

The freezing rain will then change to snow overnight and then will be followed by gusty winds.

Travel in those areas will likely become difficult with road conditions being slippery and visibility being reduced.

The Special Weather Statement is in effect for:

  • Mountain View Co. near Carstairs and Stirlingville
  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Mountain View Co. near Olds and Didsbury
  • Mountain View Co. near Sundre
  • Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
  • Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden
  • Rocky View Co. near Cochrane
