A new leading lady is settling into her new role as Family Community Support Services (FCSS) Manager.

Taking over for retiring Susan Flowers, Kim Krawec is no stranger to the supports and services FCSS provides. Being with the agency since 2004, Krawec moved from her coordinator role at the Parent Link Centre to one with a much larger scope. "I think it's broader and more opportunity; we serve right from prenatal up to seniors and stages providing support, so it will be bigger."

Although, Krawec is excited about her new opportunity at this point she doesn't need to make radical changes. To her, the work that FCSS does is already being done well. "I think, honestly, what is already happening in the office is really good. We have a really strong team and a lot of amazing work comes out. One of my main things is to make sure my team has the support and resources to do the work they are already doing and continue to do that work really well."

With Cochrane continuing to grow at a steady rate, Krawec wants to make sure all workers have support as they grow the organization in a way that is sustainable and manageable. The Cochrane Cares needs assessment will help guide future plans and programs but it can be a moving target. "It is hard to keep on top of everything new that's happening and fill in all the gaps and challenges. So I think we'll have to be really clear on our priorities and making sure everything we're doing is working towards our big goal."

There has been an overlap in her role with Flowers, which has helped. "I have big shoes to fill, Susan is amazing and she has done so much in the community." A new Parent Link Coordinator has been hired to replace Krawec so there has been a whole lot of mentoring going on throughout this transition.

As far as long-range goals go, Krawec says they will focus in on some of the key areas the needs assessment identified. "We have done meetings with our advisory board as a team and there is a ton of different issues that came up. While we can't address all of them we can come up with a really solid plan of priorities and know exactly where we are going and develop some work plans within our teams to direct us, that is probably our first step."
