It's amazing what you can do with a strong team spirit and commitment to learning a sport.

The Cochrane U10 Girls Fastpitch is the latest shining example of this with their silver medal win in the Calgary City Championships, June 16.

Coach Trent Leinenweber is absolutely thrilled with what was accomplished this season.

"We started the year with six players who had never playing ball before and three that were returning from last year," explains Leinenweber. "In the first couple practices that were held in a local school gym because of snow, we started to learn which bases were which and all the positions on the field. A windmill clinic was put on by a local volunteer to help get the girls starting to pitch."

Fast forward to the championship tournament, the girls were completing double plays, running down players trying to steal home, hitting home runs. They had learned all the fundamentals of the game, plus more.

"Most importantly they were having a great time cheering on their teammates. In the end, all the hard work, team-building, and strategy paid off."

Congrats to the U10 Girls Fastpitch team.
