Longtime Rocky View Schools Trustee and Board Chair, Colleen Munro has filed her papers to run in the upcoming October 16 election.

Declaring candidacy for Division 9 in Rocky View County, Munro feels her work ethic and accountability with Rocky View Schools will benefit Rocky View County Council if she is elected.

Thanks to her number of years representing Rocky View Schools, Munro has a good idea of what is happening throughout the entire county. "Even though I don't live in those divisions I am familiar, with some of their issues through my work with the school board. I think definitely the ability to work with a number of municipalities, not only Rocky View County as a school board; the City of Airdrie, Town of Cochrane, City of Chestermere, I can bring that experience to the role of councillor. As well as the work we have done as a board of trustees working with the provincial government in the education portfolio. Getting our voice heard, getting the voice of our constituents heard, and serving the needs of our students; I think that experience dealing with a provincial government whoever is in power is directly transferable to the Rocky View County portfolio."

Living in Division 9 for seventeen years as well growing up in the Springbank/ Bragg Creek area, Munro feels she can lend her expertise to a few key areas. "I think it's hard for people to navigate things with the county so that is something I would like to delve into and streamlining some of the processes is also on my radar, as well as, being available for rate payers in the county."

Deciding to put her name in the hat was not an easy decision, but one that Munro feels is the right one.  "I've had some good advice, and lots of encouragement from people. When you get it when you ask for it but also when it is just given to you, is a good boost."

Does Munro feel it is time for a fresh faces to represent county council?! That decision lies with voters. "You go to your constituents and you give them your portfolio, you  give them your talents; they have other people to choose from and they get to choose."

Munro is hopeful on October 16, everyone exercises their right to vote. "Local government, trustees, and county Councillors are your local politicians. They affect the way you live on a daily basis, so I really want people as much as they can, to get engaged in this election and go out and vote.

Division 9 for the most part surrounds Cochrane to the west, north, and east with two of its largest communities being Bottrel and Cochrane Lake. Bruce Kendall is the only other contender thus far for the division.
