The future of curling is going to be showcased this weekend at the Cochrane Junior U18/U15 bonspiel. The event is put on by The Cochrane Curling Club and takes place all weekend at the Curling Centre at Spray Lakes Sawmills Family Sports Centre starting Friday at 5 pm.

Guidel Ziggler, The Bonspiel Chairmen of the Cochrane Curling Club says that curling is a popular sport for youths. “Curling is really gaining some momentum with kids, We have a huge junior program. We have lots of kids with lots of interest, lots of skill levels and some of them are really doing very well, they’re going to provincial levels and so forth.”

The U18 boys and girls are participating in the Alberta Junior Curling Tour “This means that our bonspiel attracts people from all over the province so we have people from Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Castor, and Rocky Mountain House. We have kids from all over the province coming because this actually gets them points towards the year-end goal, which is to go into provincials.” explained Ziggler.

This bonspiel is a free event and there will be plenty of viewing areas set up throughout the centre.
