Cochrane's most unique event returned to Cochrane's Historic Main Street on Sunday.

Outhouses of all shapes and sizes zoomed down the street in a bid to be the quickest commode in the west in the 2022 edition of the Great Cochrane Outhouse Races.

The event had to take two years off due to the pandemic and Ryan Baum, Chair of Rocky Mountain Rotary says it was a great way to revive a Cochrane tradition. "I was ecstatic about what actually happened. Our goal this year was really to just try to get it going again and make sure that we could execute it and the additional benefit of raising a bit of money for a charity. I think both of them went off really well."

"With the energy behind this event, we're already going to start planning for next year. Now we've got everything transitioned and we're gonna have a full year to get after it."

This year, eight participants competed and raised money to support great local initiatives including the Glenbow Ranch Foundation Summer Camp for Kids. Cochrane GM took home the trophy in a nail-biting finale versus the Cochrane RCMP. Two Pharmacy/Four Cubs teamed up for a shared outhouse and took home the prize for the most fun entry.
