Last night, the Cochrane Generals commandeered the Okotoks Bisons in Game Two of the HJHL south final to tie the series 1-1.

On home ice, the Gens outshot and out checked the Bisons in what is shaping up to be a high-octane series between the two top teams in the south.

The Gens clogged the passing lanes on Bison's trademark high-powered offense and limited them to just 21 shots.

Penalties have been proving to be costly to the Bisons. The Gens' powerplay has scored three of their five goals in the series.

Caden Chudleigh opened the scoring on a powerplay two minutes into the game, equalized by the Bisons' Tyler Witzke only minutes later. Zachary Stewart put the Gens ahead from Dean Olenyk to round out the period. The Gens limited the Bisons to just six shots in the first while firing 20 shots on Devin Reagan.

After a scoreless second period, the Bisons took advantage of a penalty for too many men against the Gens to tie the game with 5:46 remaining. At the 1:40 mark, Patrick Forde got the game-winner from Chris Sambrook.

Speedy Sambrook has found yet another gear in the playoffs and has racked up some important points for the team. Last night he assisted on two of the Gens' three goals.

The Gens have proven the Bisons can be beaten, says Sambrook. Before this game, the Bisons had only lost once all season.

"I think everybody resets their play once it comes playoffs. It's all about team first here, so everybody looks out for each other."

Scoring the winner was chance to get back one, says Forde. He believes it was the d-man he was covering on the penalty kill who scored the equalizer.

He credits Sambrook for getting the turnover and setting up the opportunity. The two have been linemates since early in the quarterfinals.

"Sambrook is super fast. I think this is the best I've seen him play all year. It's working out so far, so if we keep up that chemistry, I think we'll have a few more good games, and hopefully win the series."

Now the Gens want to rob the Bisons of their home-ice advantage, perhaps as early as tonight.

Head coach Kurtis Jones says taking away that home-ice advantage would be huge.

"We've got to go out and score and get the win. We have to play like we did tonight and keep going."

Friday night, the Bisons had an empty-net goal to win the first game 4-2. A flat start by the Gens gave the Bisons a 2-1 after one that proved to be the difference.

Jordan Fisher and Takuro Okada were the Gens scorers. with assists to Ryan Davis, Patrick Forde, Brandon Aab, and Jordan Marks.

After tonight's game in Okotoks, the series returns to the Cochrane Arena on Thursday night.
