Gold is on the line today for the Cochrane Generals in the Alberta Junior B Provincials.

The Gens are returning to the gold medal game for the first time since 2017 after beating the Sherwood Park Knights, 4-2, last night in Wainwright.

It's a rematch with the Ft. St. John Huskies. Their first meeting was decided by a goal with 2.3 seconds remaining when Tristan Ripplinger and Patrick Forde combined for their first of several game-winning goals of the provincials.

It was another game-winning goal late in the third by Patrick Forde that put them ahead 3-2, followed by an empty netter, to punch their ticket to the final.

The Gens dug deep in the third after the Knights came back to tie the game 2-2. It was their second game on a day that also saw a small electrical fire in their hotel.

Many had hoped for a rematch between the two finalists in the HJHL championship. That was erased when the Okotoks Bisons were eliminated by the Huskies, 3-2, in their semifinal matchup. The Bisons finished on top of their pool, but only the Gens were undefeated in round-robin play.

Puck drops at 2 p.m. at Wainwright's Peace Memorial Multiplex.
