Today, May 11, is the 28th Annual McHappy Day which is the largest fundraiser for Ronald McDonald's House Charities Canada.

The operation of Ronald McDonald Houses is a huge undertaking that uses donations to operate. Sarah Heibein, Community Connector with Ronald McDonald House Charities says, “We provide a home away from home for families that need to travel for medical treatment for their children. We serve families from across the province from over 200 communities. We provide a safe space for them to have financial and emotional stress relief as they are navigating the medical journey of their child.”

Both the 5th Avenue and Fireside McDonald’s were hopping today with a portion of proceeds from every menu item sold today going to support Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Heibein says, “It’s our largest fundraiser throughout the year, we’re so grateful to McDonald's for their support. Of course, through COVID, it has been very challenging to fundraise and so we are truly grateful for today and the support from the community, especially in Cochrane we are so excited to see the energy.”

Along with treating oneself to a McDonald’s treat, patrons can also purchase merchandise like socks and ballcaps that help raise funds for the cause too.

McHappy Day has been happening in Canada since 1977.
