For 21 years, Cochrane Environmental Action Committee (CEAC) has been planting trees in areas that need replenishing, through its Branches and Banks event.

This year CEAC is looking to plant upwards 1500 trees in the area of Bow Meadows at the confluence of the Bow River and Jumping Pound Creek, Tim Giese, CEAC President, says the committee is looking for over 50 volunteers.

"We average somewhere between 50- 70 volunteers, right now we don't have a lot of volunteers but we are just starting to raise awareness."

Giese states the event is all about raising awareness and environmental conservation.

"We are planting in an area that was an environmental reserve but wasn't all that taken care of so we are hoping to bring it back to a good natural state. This is the first part, we are working closely with the town on this one to try and bring back the environmental reserve."

The event has seen some of the same volunteers since inception and Giese shares it is pretty neat to see the event go full circle.

"We have had people basically stick with us for 21 years, we have seen then go through one generation into another generation, so they start off with their kids and now their kids are coming out o plan wit us and they are young adults.

Giese encourages families of all ages to come out, meet their neighbours in this community minded event.

"It is a chance for people to give back to the environment, a chance to give back to the town, a chance to  enhance the town, enhance the environment not only for people today but for future generations."
