A quiet, unassuming, animal-loving family of five lost everything in a devastating house fire near Cochrane last week. The Goll family was living on a rented acreage when they lost their home, belongings, and a beloved dog to the fire. A cat was severely injured but is recovering. The family is currently looking for another acreage to rent as they also need a place for horses, miniature donkeys, pigs, ducks, and chickens.

Steve Goll says, "We would like to stay in Cochrane if it's possible."

Barb Goll who works at Bethany Care Centre would like to stay as close to Cochrane as possible she says, "Our life is here and we love it here and even 20 minutes or 30 minutes away is fine."

When asked how people can help, a modest Steve replies,  "I don't know we aren't people to take things...it's hard."

Barb adds, "It's very hard for us, we are usually the ones giving out and now we are the ones having to receive, it's very hard it's not the type of personality we have so it's so hard to do it, but we know we need the help."

Barb and Steve's caring spirit is demonstrated as they care for their elderly parents who lived with the couple prior to the fire, their son, and their animals.

Barb and Steve have a strong spirit and remain optimistic when many wouldn't. Steve says, "It's going to tough but I think we will manage with the help."

When asked if there is any positive they can take away from the awful situation they have been handed Barb's response is, "I find the Cochrane community to be very good support and I'm very impressed and very overwhelmed by all the help we have gotten so far."

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for the Goll family and the link can be found here at cochranenow.com.  For those of you who would prefer to donate cash, you can do so by dropping off your donation to the Mobil gas station on 5th Ave.
